ABSTRACT
Technology has been in support of online (Electronic) examination for a while now, and has progressively improved the online examination process over the years. However, some schools and institutions are still involved in the manual system of writing exam. This manual system, has a lot of downside such as the tediousness and time mismanagement etc. Some other institutions/Examination bodies are also involved in the use of multiple questions on an online web platform. But this development has the limitation of students not being unable to express themselves via writing, especially when answering essay questions hence the need for a better, reliable, and faster means of examining students.
This system (Paperless Theory Based Assessment System on an Android Platform) is developed to conduct essay based examination for students at the comfortablility of their mobile devices and gadgets (i.e. on an android platform).The user can enter the examination only with their valid and authentic registration code and password. This examination contains essay based questions and a text area to accept answers to be processed and accessed by lecturers. The user can only answer attempt an examination once.
The objective of this system is to implement online essay-based examinations on an android platform. Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams such as Use Case diagram, and Activity diagram was modeled for system implementation. The system was developed using PHP and HTML as the front end, While MySQL and WAMP server were used as the back-end.
