ABSTRACT

This present study investigated remuneration and job satisfaction among Lagos state government teachers. A total of 100secondary school teachers in both government and private schools (Alimosho Junior and Senior Grammar School, Eminent Comprehensive College, Dansol High School, Bachel International College, Abesan High School and Community Secondary School) Iyana Ipaja, Lagos state were used in the study, therefore a total 100 questionnaires were collected after the completion.  Data were collected using Job Satisfaction Survey (Paul E. Spector, 1985), and Compensation Management Questionnaire Scale (CMQS) (Abayomi O. Adeoye and Ziska Fields, 2014). The collected data were analyzed by Independent t-test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Regression Analysis. The results of the study showed that there is a positive relationship between remuneration and job satisfaction, indicating that an increased reward/remuneration given to the teachers in these secondary schools has a significant increase on their levels of job satisfaction. There is also a significant difference between teachers with higher job experience and lower job experience and their job satisfaction in that teachers with higher job experience had higher satisfaction with their job than teachers with lower job experience. Furthermore, the result showed that male participants reported lower job satisfaction with their teaching job than the female teachers. Finally, there were no significant differences between the private schools and public schools teachers on job satisfaction. The findings were discussed using appropriate theories and reviews.
