Introduction

The purpose of this report is to discuss the effect of industrialization and modernization in Africa culture. The main question in this report is; what are the positive and negative effects of industrialization and modernization in African culture is Africa still retaining its culture? This has become a common topic for cultural anthropologist.

Firstly, Industrialization is a process that involves shifting an economy to manufacturing goods. So, instead of relying primarily on growing crops, a country moves towards producing goods to export to other places. This means that new kinds of jobs will be available and new skills required in the African economy. Modernisation on the other hand, involves things like advancing in technology and changes in the economy. Industrialization could not begin and grow without individual business owners who can take chances on something new and perceive clear rewards for taking such chance. And modernization, as far as technology and science are concerned, emerged after the Industrial Revolution, which was triggered by the invention of spinning machinery in England during the late eighteen century.

Furthermore, General studies are a course of study that covers a variety of topics, typically as a school subject. The General Studies courses are University requirement that must be satisfied before a student can be awarded his or her degree. Examples are; physics 201, GST 201, MTh 201 etc. The philosophy behind the general studies is to expose the students to knowledge outside their chosen disciplines as fresh students in the university. The general studies courses are meant to expose students to greater awareness for the graduate about other disciplines of study with a view to making them perform better in their chosen field of study and become better members of the society on the long run. The role of general studies in teaching and learning is rapidly becoming one of the most important and widely discussed issues in Nigeria universities. The university students and information seekers require some information skills to excel in general studies and education growth.
