Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between income inequality and economic development with a case study of Jinja Municipality in Eastern Uganda. The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between income  inequality and economic development. The study reviewed data on Income inequality, gender and their relationship with economic development. The study employed descriptive survey research design method where both qualitative and quantitative research techniques were applied to identify the relationship between income inequality and economic development. The researcher collected data from stakeholders in the both government and private sector and departments in Jinja municipality using questionnaires, data was coded, sorted and punched in excels spread sheets for analysis and interpretation. The researcher found out that income inequality is a big stumbling block to economic development. The researcher recommended that government should employ measures to distribute income and resources equally to facilitate

economic development.
