ABSTARCT

This study investigated impact of family background and school attendance on academic performance , the general objective of this study was to identify how family background and school attendance effect academic performance in secondary school of Kenya, The specific

objectives of this study were to:- examine the relationship between family background and academic achievement of students, establish the relationship between nutrition/illness and student’s performance, analyse the effect of school attendance on academic achievements of

students. The research design of this study employed descriptive survey design which aided in generation of numerical and qualitative data. The target population was 8000 students and 200 teachers. the sample size of the study consisted of 100 of respondents and the sampling

procedure of this study was purposive random sampling techniques. The research instruments used collected data were questionnaire, interview and observation. The validity and reliability of the research instruments was proved by expert. The findings of the study revealed that

family background, school attendance, child health and nutrition all have contributed greatly in the academic performance of students.
