The study was carried out at Agubia Ikwo in Central Ebonyi State and aimed at using Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in suitability evaluation of some selected soils for rice production. Three rice growing soils were identified in the area which include upland, lowland and irrigated rice soils. Three profile pits were sunk in each of the three rice cropping soils summing up to a total of 9 profiles. Suitability evaluations indicated that soil climatic requirements as well as soil physical conditions were optimum (S3) and near optimum (S2) while wetness properties indicated marginally suitable at the uplands and optimum at the lowland and irrigated soils. By parametric evaluation procedure, currently, all the investigated 9 pedons of the three rice soils were not suitable (N1), while potentially, all the investigated pedons in the region were marginally suitable (S3). By the non-parametric evaluation, both potentially and currently, all the pedons in the study area were marginally suitable (S3) for rice cultivation. The major limiting factors in the investigated soils being Fe toxicity and fertility limitations. The inland valleys in this terrain are favoured by drainage which transports clay particles alongside nutrients from the adjacent uplands thereby enriching the region. The DEM produced revealed that the upland region elevation ranged from 34.7 – 41.3 m, lowland region elevation ranged from 22.0 – 34.6 m while the irrigated region ranged from 41.4 – 49.9 m above sea level.
