This study examined the relationship between intrinsic motivation and intention to be physically active outside school by
secondary school students in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The target population of the study comprised all secondary school students in Ijebu-Ode
Local Government Area of Ogun State. However, simple random sampling technique was adopted in selecting two hundred and fifty (250) students in ten(10) public
and private secondary schools from the study area. A validated instrument (questionnaire) was used in gathering data from the respondents. Moreover, the
data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages and Chi-square statistical tool. Results revealed that there is significant relationship between intrinsic motivation and students’ intention to be physically active outside school. There is significant relationship between adoption of self-determination theory and students’ intention to be physically active outside. In view of the findings, it was, therefore, recommended that parents
should be alive to their responsibilities of properly bringing up / motivating their children in the acceptable ways in the society and also to increase their
intend motive to be physically active. Students should be self-determined in engaging in physical activities
