                          ABSTRACT

The recent crackdown on terrorism and militancy in the country has raised massive campaign for security consciousness among the masses by broadcast media stations. It is in line with the nation's state of insecurity that it becomes imperative to critically study broadcast media campaign on security consciousness in Uyo metropolis. The residents of Uyo metropolis were sampled using the simple random and cluster sampling techniques to administer 400 copies of questionnaire. However, the survey design method was used to elicit information from the respondents. Therefore, the Taro Yamane method was used to determine the sample size. The results were analysed and interpreted using simple percentage. It was revealed among numerous findings that broadcast media security consciousness campaign had averagely played critical role towards making residents of Uyo metropolis to be consciously alerted to their environment and the perception of respondents towards broadcast media security consciousness campaign was  viewed satisfactory by the majority of respondents in Uyo metropolis. The research recommended that adequate security consciousness programmes should be organized for the people to be more security conscious and frequency should be attached to the airing of security consciousness information on broadcast media stations in Uyo metropolis.
