Abstract The study is an analysis of the law protecting women against gender sexual based violence in Uganda particularly central region. It was specifically aimed at identifying the loopholes within the law, causes effects and the extent of such violence on women. A review on related literature was carried out on current existing information. The study lays down the legal framework and the weakness in supporting laws which are often exploited by the perpetrators of such violence. Gender and sexual based violence is rampant in the rural areas of the central region mainly because of the low levels of awareness coupled with strong cultural belief and traditions which portray the male as a superior gender. Therefore this not easy to find this practice which has existed for time immemorial as a normal way of living life. The study concludes that it is true there is existing legal framework but its scarcity renders awareness, implementation and enforcement a shame and the laxity in such law is urgently appealing making it difficult to embrace equality between women and men making it hard to secure justice for victims of such violence. the therefore recommends a review of the current gender law and increased civic education especially in the rural areas.
