This study on the "Causes and Effects of Children Rights Violation' was carried out in Yatta district to; determine the causes of children's rights violation, and their effects, find out the roles played by NGOs and the need for government intervention in respect to child rights in Masinga zone. To comprehend the problem of the study, literature on specific objectives was reviewed. A descriptive exploratory design in which both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to solicit data through use of questionnaires and interview guide from children, parents, NGOs field employees and community leaders, all of whom constituted a sample of 70 respondents. The causes of children rights violation were identified as; poverty, vulnerability of children, witchcraft, negligent parenting, separation of children from their parents, HIV/ AIDS prevalence and the background of the abuser and the effects were psychological, immorality, spread of sexually transmitted diseases, poor nutrition/health, early pregnancies, increased street children, school dropouts, deaths and formation of child headed households. NGOs played roles of counseling and psychosocial support, networking among NGOs, training of volunteers, sensitization campaigns, lobbying for government support and the rehabilitation of the abused children whereas government intervention measures included; education reforms, identification of child headed household, legal framework alterations, improved living conditions of a child and police involvement through child protection unit.
