Abstract
Tiis stu dy was carried out to examine Student Teachers Perception of the relevance of teaching practice exercise in the Bachelor of Education Programme; A case study of University Benin . The research adopts descriptive research survey , f ive research questions were formulated and 150 questionaire were administered to 300level and 400level students of the Faculty of Education who had completed their teaching practice exercise for the 2016/2017 academic session .
An analysis of the result obtained showed Student teachers ‟ perceptions are favourably dis posed towards teaching practice, that teaching practice has helped to inculcate the professional traits in student teachers, preparing them for the real classroom and school situation.
And based on the researcher’s findings, the following recommendations were made:
-     More time should be created for student teachers to be able to complete their lessons during teaching practice supervision. If this is done, it wil helps student teachers to bring out their true teaching ability.
-     Supervisors should be friendly when engaging student teachers in supervision of teaching practice exercise. Friendly supervision enables student teachers to be comfortable and bring out their best during supervision of the teaching practice exercise.
-     Schools of posting student teachers should be encouraged to produce and use relevant instructional materials. Instructional materials act as an aid of teaching and if not readily available for use by student teachers, there might be some problem imparting knowledge.
-     The duration of teaching practice exercise should be looked into by relevant bodies. Student teachers have complained that the duration of teaching practice i.e. 6 weeks for Faculty of Education, University of Benin students is too short. Solving this problem of  duration of teaching practice will enable student teachers have more experience during teaching practice exercise.
-     Supervision of teaching practice exercise should be done in a way that encourages student teachers to achieve their best.
