ABSTRACT

Public vehicle traffic management is becoming harder, as the number of the vehicles on Nigerian roads is increasing. The Federal Road Safety Corps and other law enforcement agencies face real problems dealing with the different kinds of traffic violation, which introduces the need for an automated way to help identifying and controlling these violations.  The Online vehicle recognition system, plays an important role in addressing these issues as its application ranges from parking admission to monitoring urban traffic and to tracking automobile thefts. The aim of the project is to develop a system capable of detection and recognition of the Nigerian vehicle license plates, in order to help reducing the traffic violations, and securing the streets.

The project aims to develop the solution which will help in faster resolution of car theft case, better traffic management because drivers will not necessarily need to present the vehicle documents at various checkpoints, all the road official needs to do is just to key in the license plate number and all the details of the driver will be made available.
