ABSTRACT

 

Globally, HIV/AIDS epidemic posed an unprecedented threat to health of a nation. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 15million Africans have died from AIDS. Furthermore, in Nigeria the national HIV/Syphilis Sentinelsero-prevalent survey found that HIV/AIDS prevalence rose from 1.8% in 1998 to 5.8% in 2001 with an estimated 3,300,000 adults having with the virus. Currently, very few Nigerian have access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support or treatment services as only sizeable population of these affected are accurately receiving treatment at over 50 treatment sites for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. As the world enters the third decades of HIV/AIDS epidemics, the evidence of its impact is undeniable and the human fall and suffering due to HIV/AIDS is already enormous. Lack of sexual information and education is traditionally a very private subject in Nigeria and in many part of Africa for culture and religion reasons. So, this study aims to determine the Knowledge, Attitude and Safe Sex Practices about HIV/AIDS among Students of School of Health Technology Kankia. The study was a cross-section descriptive study design. The study population comprised of all students of School of Science and Health Technology Kankia. Self-administered questionnaires with close and open ended questions were used for data collection and data collection was entered and analyzed using Epi into version 3.3.2. and the statistical test used was chi-square test.
