ABSTRACT

This study, the problems and prospects of establishing Small-Scale Enterprises in Nigeria was undertaken to achieve some objectives which include; to ascertain the factors that constitute the problems of establishing small-scale enterprise and to proffer solutions to them as well as to ascertain whether or not small-scale enterprises contribute to economic growth and development using selected bakeries in Edo state as the case study. Data was collected and analyzed and it was discovered that the problems of establishing small-scale enterprises in Nigeria include; poor management, lack of finance, poor infrastructure and government policy. Therefore, the government is being called upon to set up programs that will educate would be entrepreneurial managers, make soft loans and adequate infrastructure available and accessible to them as well as to implement policies that promote the establishment and growth of small-scale enterprises in the country. It was also discovered that small-scale enterprises contribute immensely to economic growth and development; hence its value in any country cannot be over emphasized.
