ABSTRACT

The challenge posed by cardiovascular disease and the associated casualties has taken a centre stage in policies relating to global health and wellbeing. A lot of technological innovations have been made in this direction with attendant challenges. A standard ECG machine was constructed using affordable locally sourced discrete components to achieve the same objective. Simple Operational Amplifiers, few discrete components, signal pick-up devices and power source were assembled to achieve this feat. Comparison of results was made with Multichannel ECG system result using volunteers. There appear to be some significant differences largely due to series of different signal conditioning stages in the Multichannel machine used for comparison. Nonetheless, the results provide an understanding of the difference between a normal and abnormal ECG pattern. It also would help in researching into the production of cheap and commercially available pocket size ECG machine.
