ABSTRACT

This study was designed and conducted on investigation into use of school garden for teaching of agricultural science in senior schools in Irewole LGA, Ikire, Osun State. The research was descriptive survey type in which research question was used for the collection of data. The targeted population consisted of all senior school agricultural science teachers in Irewole LGA, Ikire, Osun State. Fifteen (15) agricultural science teachers were sampled. The data obtained were subjected to statistical test using frequency count, percentage and mean. Based on the result obtained, it was concluded that there was significant relationship between the use of school garden and teaching of agricultural science. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made; government should disburse money to educational sector to support and establish standard school garden; school administrators should be encouraged to establish good school garden; all students of agricultural science should be encouraged to take active part in the garden activities at school and home; agricultural science teachers should stimulate students’ interest in agriculture by showing pride in their subject and by owning and manage their own garden; the PTA, philanthropists and successful agro-based businessmen should contribute to school garden development; the importance of school garden should be well emphasized in the school curriculum by curriculum planners.
