THE NEGATIVE ATTITUDE OF FEMALE STUDENTS TOWARDS THE STUDY OF PHYSICS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS
In this project, the researcher concluded a research work into negative attitude of female students towards the study of physics in secondary schools certificate in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The researcher sampled the opinion of secondary school students and teachers in ten selected schools through the use of questionnaires which where distributed among the students and teachers. Based on the negative attitudes identified the researcher made the following recommendations.
1. The schools should provide adequate teaching aid for the teaching of physics in secondary school
2. Government should make provision for funds in order to encourage the teaching of physics in secondary schools.
3. Government should provide adequate professionally trained physics teachers to handle the subject effectively.
4. Government should improve the condition of service of teachers in order for them to put in their best.
5. Government should make physics facilities available in all schools
6. Teachers should wake up fro their slumber and be innovative in order to improve their teaching methods.

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
Physics is a science concerned with the behaviour of matter the importance of the study of physics cannot be overemphasized. It is a subject that studies the behavior of matter and energy e.g. heat, light, sound. In real life people are interested in their own bodies and they also need a person to know of how they work. Physics practical experiments are very valuable because they serve as passage through which we can see own machinery at work.
Considering the fact that Nigeria has undergone tremendous changes in diverse spheres of human endeavors, these changes have been very pronounced in the past years in the realms of socio – cultural, political and educational advancement. Predominant factor in these changes is the continued importation of foreign socio cultural political and educational values.
Amidst these changes is the advancement of different disciplines physics inclusive. As a result of these changes the different spheres of knowledge were mixed up because of these imports.
Thus these disciplines with such an un-coordinated imported values and projects usually resulted in abrupt changes. Such changes have affected to a large extent the progress and advancement of physics in this great country. Such changes have affected to a large extent the progress and advancement of physics in this great country.
With this background in mind the questions which readily comes to mind is that what in effect happening to the study of physics in Nigeria today? In view of the foreign therefore, this study aims at finding out, analyzing and properly evaluating the negative attitude of female towards the study of physics in some selected schools in Oredo, Benin city in particular
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The study intends to examine the negative attitude of female students towards the study of physics.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The findings, analysis and evaluation of the problem associated with student’s negative attitude of female students towards the study of physics in some selected schools in Benin city will do no doubt be useful in the following ways.
Firstly, the research will create a source of awareness for physics teachers in secondary schools and the ministry of education on the negative attitude of female students towards the study of physics and this will enable them provide solutions for improvement.
Secondly, it would allow policy makers to see physics education as an operational area of study with the analysis of communication of physics as its major objective with the increased complexity of modern civilization it will become more and more important to look closely at the fundamental assumption that the setting up of secondary schools physics curriculum.
Thirdly, it is important for educational reasons to ensure that there are enough physics talents in the society becoming more and more in need of physics skills.
Fourthly, secondary school teachers would enhance the teaching of basic physics concept in secondary schools thus physics should be made more practicable as possible and relating to study to students environment. In fact it would guarantee in female students the power to think deductively,
The study was carried out among some selected schools in Oredo local government area of Edo state, the total number of schools involved are ten out of the one hundred and twenty seven schools in the area.
