INTEGRATED STUDY ON THE USE OF A COMPUTER-BASED RESULT MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (CBRMIS

A CASE OF SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, EMMANUEL ALAYANDE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, OYO

CHAPTER ONE

  1.

1.1    GENERAL INTRODUCTION

The effort expended in the process of registration of students and computation of their examination results is awesome and quite worrisome because these processes are carried out in every academic session. In doing this, operators are in continuous and ever demanding cycle. The computation of examination results and registration of students is obviously an object-centered activity, the students being the dominant object in this case. Hence, the need to evolve a computerized process that will effectively and efficiently capture all the important data associated with the registration and examination result processing within the college and the interactions among the objects.

A student’s Result is also demanded by a student who has finished his/her NCE programme and wishes to transfer to another school or student who wishes to get a job. A Transcript is not given directly to a student. It is sent to the school that the student wishes to be transferred, or to the organization or establishment that requires the result.

A students’ Result is prepared or formed by the scores entered on the designed score sheet by the individual subject lecturers on semester examinations. This genuine and noble desire necessitated the design and development of the students course Registration and Examination Processing System software.

1.2    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:

Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, has a complex heritage reflecting its transition from a strictly religious institution to the status of a public College of Education.

The St. Andrew's College, Oyo(now Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo) was established as a Grade II Teacher’s College by the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.) in 1896 and it ranked as the oldest Teachers' Training College in Nigeria. In 1976, the clamour for its upgrading to an NCE awarding institution began. The Oyo State Government acceded to this request in October 1980 by upgrading the College to a campus of the then Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa. In March 1983, the supervision of the College was transferred to the Oyo State College of Education, IlaOrangun. The College gained full autonomy as a full-fledged college of education on first October 1985.

The transformation from a Teachers’ Grade II awarding institution to a Nigeria Certificate in Education awarding institution is an undeniable fact that the institution has been responding to the needs of the society and time. It is a scientific speculation that in order to meet the educational challenges of 21st century, the College should continue in the progressive transformation as an education institution.

Emmanuel Alayande College of Education Oyo presently comprises of five schools:

School of early childcare education presently has two departments, namely:

Mission of school of education is to train students who will be equipped to analyze and undertake teaching and research work in primary education. Its vision is to position the school as a centre of excellence in teaching and learning. The school offers a synergy of deep intellectual insight, excellence of ideas and robust teaching that makes a difference in the lives of our students.

1.3    AIM AND OBJECTIVES.

The aim of this research is to design a package capable of registering students’ courses and processes students’ results. Objectives include:

The scope of this study is ancccccc. The system is strictly based on students’ course registration and result processing of system.
