ABSTRACT

    This study was undertaken morder to critically survey the problems of secretaries who waste time and energy in search of documents because of non-basic knowledge of computer applications and programmes. This lack of comprehensive knowledge of computer heads to less output, inaccuracy of official documents, and gene a poor performance of their duties.
    The remedy to these urgly situations have been given through this survey by putting down the required information on computer literacy, definition or inception, development of computers, generation of soft and hardware and why and how to assist the secretary acquire the needed knowledge of computer.
    The necessary ideas and recommendations were thrown for the secretaries for higher efficiency and productivity. With the ideas and recommendation experimented, it will ginger their moral and better working experience of secretaries without tears and inspire them to quantity standard in their field of proffession and general output will be efficient and effective, hence computer literacy of secretaries in highly needed in today’s modern organization.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION
1.1    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Before the discovery of the office equipment called and known as computer, there was already existing office equipment known as manual typewriter and that was mostly disposable to every secretary.  The first manual typewriter was invented and produced by Henrry Mill. Also in the year 1874 Bemington typewriter was into the market and that brought about the contract that was offered to Plito Bemington in the year 1973 to produce the macture called Bemington typewriter.
    The type office equipment somehow simplify worked for secretaries but skill with shortcomings attached to it.
    Furthermore, engineers at work in Texas Instrument Company in united state of America came up with a new invention or how to put more than one transistor on the same circuit and link them without wires. It was through these invention, that production and further improvement in computer for easires production on different work was established.
    These equally increased productivity and minize monotary for the users. This generates the necessities for the secretaries and computer world for literacy purpose.
    Notwithstanding, computer literacy is a new innovation that the awareness is worldwide encouraged hence we are in computer age. The computer literate, means that it is necessary to know computer especially the secretary, who as a tool its usefulness should be understood be of benefit and the limitation in usage should be known as well.
    This study will fell us how these equipment that were sent as to the moon was equally used in banks, offices, schools, hospitals and mostly in our modern organizations with respect to efficiency and easiress of the computer literate secretaries
    Computer system is very important, useful in properly and adequately utilized. It can also create bad habits and ideas if universally used. It is in our knowledge that a this modern computer age, business houses, government agencies and other organizations where the services of a secretary need has to be computerized. Based on this ground, it is requried that every secretary has to be computer literature especially now that the modern oriented organization is taking over.
    Computer has come to stay, hence it is welcomed in almost every aspect of life. Since the origin and the inception of digital computers the electronic gadget have spreaded all the market places, the working place, and even for domestic usage. The education effects doctors, lawyers, executive, administrators, secretary, sales person, designers of various goods. Few people fund computer usage as universe but many find the prospect exciting and important. The bottom line and the future forcast is that ability to use a computer will in no distance time become a job requirement in Nigeria labour market.  Competitors for these jobs should be able to know how to cope with this modern trend.

1.2    STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
1.    It is difficults to know the extend on which computer usage has create an impact on elevating the productivily and efficiency of employed secretaries in Afribank
2.    The value of procuring a computer
3.    To know if there is an advantage of computer over other office machines and equipment
4.    The need for computer usage in the modern organization

1.3    PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to research the secretary and computer literacy in a modern organization.
1.    Check whether computers has made any impact on improving quantity productivity and efficiency of secretaries in Afribank of Nigeria Plc, Okpara Avenue, Enugu.
2.    Determine if such study is significant to commorgurate the high cost incurred in procuring it.
3.    Cross check if the use of computer has created a noticeable advantages over other office machines and equipments earlier in use before computer intentions
4.    Find out the correct and type of computer in use in computerized organizations.

1.4    RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The following questions were organised by the researcher to enable her reach precise conclusions, they are as follows:-
1.    What are the impact created by the computer usage on the secretaries in Afribank?
2.    What are the significance to common surface the high cost incurred in procuring the computer?
3.    Is there any advantage(s) of computer over other modern office machines and equipment?
4.    What are the correct and type of computer used in modern organization?
5.    How extent has computer improve the quantity productivities of secretaries?

1.5    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The research study will be great importance to different organization in Nigeria to at lest impact the required computer literacy on their various secretaries.
    The research will be immensely important to both federal and state government for a healthy policies for importation of useful and sophisticated office equipments.
    On the same vein the study will be very difficult to different business organization to appreciate the maximal use of computers for efficient and increased organizational quality productivity.
    Conclusively, the research will be vital to any one in the field of business Administration for sending and receiving information processes.

1.6    DELIMITATION
This research is delimited to finding out the secretary and computer literacy in Afribank of Nigeria Plc, Okpara Avenue, Enugu.

1.7    SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this study was limited by only computer literate of the Afribank of Nigeria Plc, Okpara Avenue, Enugu

1.8    DEFINITION OF TERMS
    The following terms will be highlighted in this study as they are going to appear several times inside.
1.    COMPUTER
Computer was defined in the year 1989 by Denis J as electronic gadget with interior stored sequence of constructions that guide it automatically through a mechanised device of operations which essentially lead to the completion of a certain task.
2.    SECRETARY:
An association of secretaries based in America defined secretary as an executive assistant that posses a mastering of skill, that assumes responsibility without a close guide and able to take decision(s) within his her own junisdiction.
3.    LITERACY:
In this particular study it entails one having knowledge of computer.
4.    MODERN ORGANIZATION:
Organization that applies modern office equipment and computer
5.    EQUIPMENT:
Those organizational assets that are used in an office example typewriter, and computer
6.    STUDY:
This is any stop male to learn computer, what they can do and what they cannot as a secretary hears and need about them.
7.    TYPEWRITER:
This is a type of machine ment for producing words in printed form either mannually or electrically.
