AN INVESTIGATION INTO MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES USED BY BUSINESS ORGANIZATION IN ENUGU URBAN
ABSTRACT
This survey investigated motivational strategies used by business organization in Enugu Urban.
The research considered the existing motivational strategies used in Nigerian cooperation Enugu and how effective. They were in motivating employees. The  purpose of the study was to: -
1.    Determine whether the employees of Nigerian Railway corporation are adequately motivated.
2.    Determine strategies they adopt in motivating their employees.
3.    Determine if those employees are happy with those strategies
4.    Determine if those strategies are capable of motivating other employees in other organization
5.    Find out if other strategies can motivate employees of Nigerian Railway corporation better than the present strategies adopted in the corporation.
The instrument used for collecting data for the study was questionnaire references were made to some useful texts, some of which were used in writing the literature review.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
A factory office or shop is not merely a work place but also a social environment business activities in these departments of an organization encompass the treatment given to people there.
Looking at the would around us today, most business establishments have been compelled by the global economical recessions to reappraise its management with a view to improve productivity. Which are carried out by the National Planning Commission.
The effectiveness and efficacy in an organization depends on workers efficiency and effectiveness.
The primary aim of the study is to appraise, stimulate interest and see how exchange of gift influence peoples life.
Nigeria Railway corporation is one of many corporations owned by the Federal Government of Nigerian Degree No. 221958 and do not seem to appreciative of their work the general impression of the public is that the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) Enugu is now a dead organization. The management of the organization have introduced a lot of innovations for the effective functioning of the organization. The federal government on the same measure have spend huge sum of money for the construction of railway roads, services of existing railway roads and equipment’s and the provision of amenities for the welfare of the workers.
According to Thorndike (1911). We tend to repeat those actions followed closely by motivation or reward and avoid those actions followed closely by motivation or reward and avoid those actions followed by discomfort or punishment to the organization.
Ihibardo and Ruch 1977) from the different measure which were introduced to Nigerian railway corporation in order to improve its services both to orders to improve it service both to improve it services both to workers and customers there arise the need to investigate into workers motivation in the organization with a view to determine the extent these measure have achieve the designed objectives and at the same time ascertain the workers reactions to.
1.2    ORGANIZATIONS have ways to investigate into motivational strategies they may use to handle employees, what? In the corporation. The problem is that employees are not adequately motivated in terms regular payment of their salaries and the part of the fringe benefits this has resulted to a carefree attitude to work thereby covering the profitability of the organization. Other problems according to Dubbin (1958) is that employees are not given complies force to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Whether or not these policies have negatively or positively influenced the performance of employees in Nigerian. This study therefore strictly investigated motivational strategies used by the Nigerian railway corporation to secure the best out of their employees.
1.3     THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO:
1.    Determine whether the employees of the Nigerian Railway Corporation are adequately motivated.  
2.     Determine if these employees are happy with those strategies.
3.    Determine strategies adopt in motivating their employees.
4.    Determine if those strategies are capable of motivating other employees in other organizations.
5.    Find out if other strategies can motivate employees of Nigerian Railway Corporation better than their present strategies.    
1.3    DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY:-
This project work investigated only the motivational strategies used by the Nigerian R airway corporation, Enugu.
1.5    The study will be useful to business organization. It will enable them to adopt standard and documented motivational strategies that would make for workers effectiveness and efficiency.
The study will be useful by given the workers more knowledge on the nature of motivational strategies employed by the organization rewards like giving of gifts during festive periods.
    The employee’s benefits from the study by receiving more pay which helps to arouse their interest.
The personal secretaries also benefit from the study, in that it enhances their awareness of what they should expect from their employers other business organizations and companies would benefit from the study through their human relation officers. Secretaries and personnel officers.
1.6    ASSUMPTION OF THE STUDY:-
It is assumed that where people come together to work and produce, there must exist some feeling of domination.
    It researcher also assumed that Nigerian Railway corporation in Enugu state has motivational strategies. We assumed that good strategies may increase their productivity and that workers need adequate training for greater productivity.
    It is further assumed that improved motivational strategies should be employed to boast employee’s interest.
    Finally, the researcher assumed that good-working conditions helps to increase workers productivity.
1.7    RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1.    To what extent are the employees of Nigerian railway co-operation adequately motivated?
2.    What strategies does Nigerian Railway co-operation use in motivating their workers?
3.    To what extent are the employees happy with such strategies?
4.    Are these strategies capable of motivating other employees in other organization?
5.    What strategies can motivate employees of Nigeria Railway co-operation better?
Motivation is defined as the cause to feel active interest by acting in a certain way.
    Berelson and Steme (1975) have descried motivation as- An inner state, which energizes, activates and moves and that directs or channels behaviour to wards goal.
    It is remarkable to note that motivation could be inform of gifts. Money, bones, fringe benefits to instigate workers to put more effort.
STRATEGY            
This is the planning and directing of the whole operation of a plan or policy.
    It is a valuable link between the organization, and the workers. Since organization is ineffective without direction, there is need for organization to employ strategies for their mutual well-being.
INVESTIGATION  
The word “investigation: - Is defined by oxford dictionary as a situation of studying care fully into the ways where by workers are handled in an organization.  
    This is the ability of doing a particular job very well and to the satisfaction of people.
    Able to bring about the result intended, this is the power of being provocative. It is the rate at which a job is properly carried out.
