ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of graded levels 1.3 %) of ginger (Zingiber officinale, Roscoe) (0%, 0.1%, 0.4, 0.7%, 1.0% and 1.3 %) as feed additive in the diets of Clarias gariepinus on growth performance and haematological parameters. This study was carried out to evaluate ginger (Zingiber officinale) for ten weeks to study its effects on Clarias gariepinus. Thus, two hundred and seventy juvenile catfish (Clarias gariepinus) were fed on various levels of supplemental ginger in addition to a control diet (treatmentI) without ginger inclusion. The treatments had 0.1%, 0.4%, 0.7%, 1.0%, 1.3% supplemental ginger inclusion per I00 kg diet respectively.

There were differences (p>0.05) among treatments in all the performance parameters observed. Fish fed 0.7% GPM diet performed significantly (p<0.05) better than others. The diets had no negative effect on growth performance of the fish on the long-run.

ABSTRACTS A ten weeks feeding trial was carried out in order to examine the effect of including different types of lipids in the diets fed to African catfish fingerlings (Clarias gariepinus) on their growth performance and serum biochemistry. A total of one hundred (100) African catfish fingerlings with weight range of 129-130g per one 50litres... Continue Reading
ABSTRACT Three different chemicals: fonnalin, hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate were used for intermittent prophylactic treatment of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings (2.43±0.04) for 10 weeks. ABSTRACT The experiments were conducted on the influence of stocking density on growth  and survival of post fry of the African mud catfish, Clarias gariepinus. Clarias g gariepinus post fry were stocked at the rate of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 post fry/ 30 l litres of water. The post fry were fed twice daily with a commercial catfish feed (... Continue Reading
ABSTRACT. The study examined the effect of battery waste on African catfish, Clarias gariepinus. Massive spent batteries when disposed indiscriminately constitute nuisance and cause resource waste as well as environmental pollution to the ecosystems. The fish were exposed to five different concentrations as T 1 5g,T2 l Og, T3 15g, T4 20g, T 5... Continue Reading

ABSTRACT This study examined the total replacement of fishmeal (FM) with poultry hatchery waste meal (PHWM) in practical diets for African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Five iso-nitrogenous diets containing levels Diet1, 0% (control); Diet 2, 25%; Diet 3, 50%; Diet 4, 75% and Diet 5, 100% of PHWM as a replacement for FM were fed to three replicate...
